DAY 01: ARRIVAL IN CHENNAI

On your arrival at Chennai, international airport, welcome by our representative & you will be transferred to Hotel for 01 night. After noon half day guided sightseeing of the Fort St. George near the harbor area of Chennai. The British built this fort in the 17th century. You will also visit the St. Mary’s Church. This church was the first English church in India. Chennai is the largest city in Tamil Nadu and is located on the southeastern coast of India. The city was formerly known as Madras and was established by the British. They developed it into a significant urban center and naval base. Around 20th century, Chennai became an important administrative headquarter and the capital of Madras Presidency. The growth and expansion of British Empire led to development of the city. It has been endowed with the rich heritage of art and culture.

DAY 02: DRIVE TO MAHABALIPURAM VIA KANCHIPURAM {75+70 KM / 03 HRS}

In the morning after breakfast drive to Mahabalipuram enroute visiting Kanchipuram {75 km from Chennai}, this temple town was once the capital of the Pallava dynasty. Kanchipuram is one of the India’s Seven sacred cities. The silk sarees produced here are famous throughout the world. In the afternoon visit the Vaikuntam Perumal Temple. This temple is one of the important Vishnu temples which was built by Pallava King Nandivarman Pallavamalla in the 7th century A.D. The presiding deity Lord Vishnu is depicted in sitting, standing and reclining postures. After visiting this temple we visit the Kailasanathar Temple. This Pallava temple was constructed in the 8th century and has an attractive panel depicting Shiva and Parvathi in the midst of one of their innumerable dance competitions. The architecture of this temple resembles the Shore Temple at Mamallapuram. After visiting the temple drive to Mahabalipuram covering a distance of 70 km / 1.3 hrs, upon arrival check in at Hotel for 02 nights.

DAY 03: MAHABALIPURAM

Mamallapuram {Mahabalipuram} situated on the shores of the Bay of Bengal, was once a port of the Pallavas. The Pallavas have created many marvellous monuments, caves, monolithic Rathas and Temples. Today visit the Arjuna’s Penance. This skilfully carved rock is the largest bas-relief sculpture in the world. This sculpture derived its name from Arjuna, the hero of Mahabharata, who performed a penance to obtain a boon from Lord Siva. After visiting the Arjuna’s Penance we visit the Five Rathas, also known as the Pancha Pandava Rathas. There are five monolithic temples, each created in different style. Four of the Rathas are supposed to have scooped out of a single rock formation. In the evening we visit the Shore Temple. This temple is one of the oldest temples in South India. It belongs to the 8th Century AD and is a good example of the first phase of structural temples constructed in Dravidian style.

DAY 04: DRIVE MAHABALIPURAM TO PONDICHERRY {130 KM / 2.30 HRS}

After breakfast we proceed to Pondicherry, upon arrival check in at Hotel for 01 night. Pondicherry was retained as French colony until 1954. Pondicherry has even today the French atmosphere amidst the surrounding Tamil country.

After noon half day guided trail will take you into the heart of the city and help you understand the various regions in the town such as the Tamil, French and Muslim areas with their distinct architectural influences. The old Pondicherry town has a unique charm, which captivates the hearts of visitors. To experience the spirit of Pondicherry it is essential to walk through the old town and closely observe the nature of its architectural traditions. Later visit the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, which is a world famous Yoga and philosophy center. Rest of the day free on own to enjoy the Beach.

DAY 05: DRIVE PONDICHERRY TO THANJAVUR {250 KM / 5 HRS}

We drive through the tropical mountains to Chidambaram. Chidambaram lies on the north edge of the coleroon river. In Chidambaram we visit the Natraja Temple which is dedicated to the dancing Lord Shiva, a famous Hindu deity of the Chola Kings. On the way to Tanjore we have a stop over in Kumbakonam. Kumbakonam is famous for its 18 temples in the town centre. The city Tanjore (Thanjavur) is our last destination today. Tanjore was the capital of great chola empire who built more than 70 temples between 10th and 14th century. We visit here one of the world heritage monument.

DAY 06: DRIVE THANJAVUR TO MADURAI VIA TRICHY {250 KM /5.30 HRS}

Morning drive to Srirangam and visit the Ranganathasvami Temple which is one of the largest temples in India dedicated to god Vishnu. After the visit of Srirangam we proceed to Madurai enroute visiting Trichy. Trichy, the land near the delta is very fertile and productive. This town Trichy is so ancient that it was mentioned by Ptolemy in the 2nd century BC by Alexandrian geographer. We climb stairs to the famous Rock Fort which was built on 84 m high rock in the centre of town in about 1660. We also visit a Shiva and Ganesha temple and enjoy a wonderful view of the surroundings from the top. Later leave for Madurai, upon arrival check in at Hotel for 02 nights.

Madurai situated on the bank of river Vaigai is also referred to as the Athens of the East. Madurai has the most outstanding examples of Vijayanagar temple architecture in the Minakshi Temple, a standing monument to the temple builders of the 16th and 17th century. We spend enough time in Minakshi Temple and afterwards have a walk through the bazaars of this 2500 years old town.

DAY 07: MADURAI

After break fast guided sightseeing of Tirumalai Nayaka Palace. This palace was built in the 1636 and represents the Indo-Mughal style and Gandhi Museum. In Gandhi Museum we get the information about the life of Gandhi and freedom movement during the presence of British in India. Rest of the day free on own.

DAY 08: DRIVE MADURAI TO THEKKADY {150 KM / 03 HRS}

In the morning after having breakfast drive to Thekkady. On arrival check in at hotel for 01 night.

Thekkady is a naturalist’s paradise of unending chains of hills and spice scented plantations. It has unspoilt tropical forests and incredible wealth of animal and plant life. Thekkady is well known for the Periyar National Park and the elephants are the major attractions here. In the afternoon, drive to the Periyar National Park. The Periyar National Park is one of the most captivating wildlife parks in the world and also one of the largest and finest wildlife reserves in India. Periyar National Park covers an area of 780 square km and was designated a part of project Tiger in 1973. In the evening we have a boat ride on the Periyar Lake and observe the activities of elephants, tiger, bison, wild oxen, wild boar and spotted deer.

DAY 09: THEKKADY/MUNNAR DRIVE {75 K.M./ 01.30 HOURS}

In the morning after having breakfast drive to Munnar covering a distance of 75 km. On arrival check in at hotel. Rest of the day to explore the National Park and Tea Museum in Munnar.

Munnar – is a beautiful hill resort situated in the cradle of tea plantations. Munnar, the queen of hill stations is located at the confluence of three mountain streams namely, Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala, along the western Ghats on the eastern border of Kerala and was once the summer resort of the British government in South India. Sprawling tea plantations, picture-book towns and winding lanes make this a popular resort.

DAY 10: DRIVE MUNNAR TO KUMARAKOM {100 KM / 2 HRS}

Morning drive to Kumarkom, upon arrival check in at Hotel for 01 night. The panoramic backwaters here offer an ideal retreat to enjoy nature at its best. The village of Kumarakom is a cluster of little islands on the Vembanad Lake, and this small water world is part of the Kuttanad region. Post lunch visit the bird sanctuary here, which is spread across 14 acres, is a favorite haunt of migratory birds and an ornithologist’s paradise. Egrets, darters, herons, teal, waterfowl, cuckoo, wild duck and migratory birds like the Siberian stork that live there in flocks are a fascination for visitors. The best way to watch the birds of the Kumarokom sanctuary is a boat trip round the islands. An enchanting backwater destination, Kumarokom offers visitors many other leisure options. Boating and fishing facilities are available at Kumarokom. An unbelievably beautiful paradise of mangrove forests, emerald green paddy fields and coconut groves interspersed with enchanting waterways and canals adorned with while lilies.

DAY11: DRIVE KUMARAKOM

Morning half day is free to explore the scenery and natural surroundings in Kumarkom, afternoon check in at {cruise} a traditional houseboat of Kerala style for 01 night and enjoy the cruise through the backwaters. The backwaters in Alleppey houses a variety of fauna, flora and marine life. On the way you will see various local activities of the people living along the backwaters and also visit some of the tourist places on the way. The Backwater cruise from Kumarakom to Alleppey is the fabulous way to explore the fascinating beauty of the backwaters.

DAY12: DRIVE ALLEPPEY TO KOVALAM {175 KM 3.3 HRS}

Disembark from House Boat and half day is free to explore the scenery and natural surroundings in Alleppey. Alleppey, the coastal town on the Arabian Sea is known as the Venice of the East and famous for the numerous backwater canals that meander through the town. This town holds a thrilling event of snake boat race every year during August. It is also known for its cashew nuts. Later drive to Kovalam for 02 nights.

Thirty years ago, Kovalam was a hippy idyll a picture perfect tropical beach, a traditional fishing village providing fresh fish, fruits and (coconut beer). Today this tiny beach is the focus of a multi-million dollar business, drawing thousands of tourists for a week dose of ozone, UV and a refreshing Indian Experience. Kovalam was brought to the public eye by the Maharaja of Travancore. Over the past three decades, the place has been well developed, and now figures prominently on the world tourism map. Kovalam is just 16 kms away from Trivandrum.Today Kovalam beach is known as the „Paradise of the South„. Kovalam“ means a grove of coconut trees and true to its name the village offers an endless sight of coconut trees. The crescent-shaped beach has three parts. The southern most beach, and the most popular, is light house beach. It offers an amazing sight of Vizhinjam mosque. The northern Samudra is a laidback one and time seems stands still here. The middle, hawah, in the early day, is a beehive of activities with fishermen setting out for sea. With a high rock promontory and a calm bay of blue waters, this beach paradise creates a unique aquarelle on moonlit nights.

DAY 13: KOVALAM / KANYAKUMARI / KOVALAM DRIVE {75 KM +75K.M}

In the morning after having breakfast day excursion of Kanyakumari visit Kumari Amman Temple picturesquely situated overlooking the shore, this temple and the nearby ghat attract pilgrims from all over India to worship and to bathe. Gandhi Memorial Next to the Kumari Amman Temple, this striking memorial stored the Mahatma’s ashes until they were immersed in the sea. It resembles an Orissan temple and was designed so that on Gandhi’s birthday ( 2- October), the sun’s rays fall on the place where his ashes were kept. Suchindram Temple This temple, 13 km noth-west of Kanyakumari at suchindram, is noted for its ‚musical‘ columns and its impressive 3 m tall statue of Hanuman, the monkey god. Also visit Padmanabhapuram Palace, Vivekanada rock, enjoy Ferry ride and drive to back to Kovalam.

DAY 14: KOVALAM/ TRIVANDRUM{16 KM / 20 MINUTES} FLIGHT FOR
ONWARD JOURNEY

After breakfast departure transfer to Trivandrum International airport in time to fly to Doha. Flug von Trivandrum nach Chennai.
